ABOUT ME

Hello! my name is Jeffrey Rapkin and I am the proud father of a daughter

who has been diagnosed with ASD. I am also an attorney specializing in

Guardian Advocacy, Adoptions, and Family matters.

 

Over the years I have become acutely aware of the inherent difficulties we face  

as parents and caregivers of loved ones who are Developmentally Disabled.

The Florida Legislature has carved out a Guardianship process that has been

specifically made just for us. It's called "Guardian Advocacy."

 

I feel this type of of Guardianship it is poorly named because "Guardian Advocacy" is a type of Guardianship, but the name doesn't speak to the powers, rights, and responsibilities which accompany a Guardianship. I think it should be called "Developmental Guardianship.

 

Most people don't know about this kind of Guardianship's existence, and it seems each county has its own way of completing the process. I have developed a method that is legally sound, tracks the statute, and is streamlined to make it easier for you to complete your Guardian Advocacy documents, in whichever county you reside.

It is my deepest and sincerest hope that the materials I have provided in this website provide everything you need to prepare, file, obtain, and maintain Guardian Advocacy for your Developmentally Disabled loved one. I created this website myself and it is also my hope that those of you who choose to use it will let me know if there is anything that needs to be improved upon.  Feel free to contact me if you have any questions and/or comments.
